terrible ad promoting a recall of our duly elected school board

The “Recall Four,” Know Your Attackers

The majority of Forest Hills Public Schools’ Board of Education seats are on the ballot this fall. It is critical that we maintain a tradition of non-partisanship, student-centered excellence, and pro-public education perspectives on our school board by electing the right candidates.

There would be no Support FHPS had this local group not attempted a highly partisan political recall stunt. We believe they are entitled to their personal beliefs, but we couldn’t stand idly by as they began threatening students and educators. They decided it was worth Forest Hills Public Schools paying $100,000 of the district’s budget to force an unwarranted recall election a mere 6 months before the “free” general election just to prove a point. Recalls should be reserved for malfeasance, not to force the early outing of someone whose opinions THEY don’t agree with.

Hundreds and hundreds of local citizens demanded something be done to prevent the ongoing disingenuous smear campaign and we proudly jumped at the chance. This entire operation mirrors the national attack strategy. In fact, Ballotpedia shows that Michigan had the highest volume of recall attempts in the nation between 2021-2022. This points to a coordinated attack strategy and political agenda.  That same group wants you to now elect them to our school board. Give us the same support you did back then by electing pro-FHPS candidates CJ Michaud, Malorie Ninemeier, and Ed Aboufadel to school board instead. Just say no to the “recall four.”

The candidates who are WRONG for Forest Hills Public Schools are known to:

  • Berate students who chose to wear masks during the COVID-19 pandemic, screaming at them walking into and out of the school building

  • Scream at the top of their lungs at school board members about topics they hear about on TV but are not happening at our schools (like college-level “CRT”)

  • Abuse voters’ choices by attempting to recall duly elected members of our Board of education, simply because those members think objectively instead of embracing the personal beliefs of some. Thankfully, all of these attempts failed

  • Spy on teachers’ personal and private social media accounts, trying to uncover their lifestyles and beliefs

  • Speak against the educator’s union and commit to working against them

  • Campaign on partisan platforms and politicize the board by taking a candidate stand on specific topics, going against the Board of Education’s code of ethics to arrive at decisions only after reviewing all available information and a formal meeting

  • Invite partisan politicians to crash and campaign at our Board of Education meetings, where they threatened to defund the district

  • Collecting signatures for the new voucher scheme that will take billions of dollars away from Michigan public schools

  • Make FHPS a hostile and unwelcoming environment for LGBTQ students and educators and diverse students by asking for the removal of photos from teachers’ desks, any books that mention LGBTQ characters, etc.

  • Encourage book banning and burning

  • Focus their platforms on extremely harmful cancel culture policies, like limiting students’ access to mental health support

Bombshell Discovery

The disingenuous attacks against Forest Hills Public Schools likely originated with good intentions around sports during Covid, but with those resumed, attacks have shifted to a revolving door of grievances, including sensationalized attacks on libraries, because they are ultimately trying to point to Michigan schools as failing in order to help with the bigger goal of passing a new voucher scheme and even the gubernatorial election. Our very own local district attack group is involved.

Please, please never stop questioning why none of this passes the sniff test. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH FHPS. Get out there in the community and help us correct this disinformation and educate voters.

You can advocate for what YOU want without burning down an entire community in the process. This affects Forest Hills. This group also purposely stirred up Dearborn parents this month because they knew it would pull them in at the core of their religious beliefs. Despicable.

Vote to SUPPORT Forest Hills Public Schools.

It is critical that we maintain a tradition of non-partisanship, student-centered excellence, and pro-public education perspectives on our school board by electing the right candidates.

✅ Dr. CJ Michaud (PharmD), Six-year term

The Situation in Forest Hills Public Schools Right Now

School board elections don’t often draw much attention, but it’s critical that we elect Board of Education candidates who will continue serving in the best interests of our kids.

There are 13 candidates running for four seats on our school board. That’s the majority of our seven Board seats on the ballot this fall:

  • Three seats are open for six-year terms

  • One seat is open for a special two-year term

Support FHPS has been working for over a year to mitigate ongoing disruption in our district. The highly-polarized political climate has driven more candidates with extreme views to run for local political offices – often as a launchpad for higher office.

Help protect the integrity of the Forest Hills Public Schools Board of Education and preserve excellence in our district by electing strong, pro-public education candidates on November 8.

  • Our school district ranks in the top 5% nationally and the strength of our schools and educators helps keep our property values high, and our children on the path toward a bright future.

We support candidates who will keep the focus on preserving FHPS’ tradition of excellence in public education - not those who would use the board as a platform to advance political agendas.

  • Support FHPS is a 100% local volunteer group. We are parents who love and choose this district for our kids. We are sharing information on the candidates to help residents make an informed vote.

Our commitment to FHPS earned us invitations to join national coalitions like Network for Public Education, the Students Rights Coalition, Families for Safe Schools, and the Michigan Education Justice Coalition. Our pride in FHPS does not mean we are complacent. We advocate for change that encourages excellence – not agendas.
